Some owners may wish to modify the stock clutching on the Outlander 400, Usually due to loss of power after adding Larger Mud tires.
There is 2 options currently available.
1) Clutch kit
2) Clutch Kit
I currently have the EPI kit installed. The kit contains 2 new primary springs and a spacer for the secondary. The owner chooses which spring to install for the performance required. It also contains a spacer for the secondary, to improve backshifting, but many owners choose not to install it because it takes 10mph off the top speed. It is an improvement over the stock clutching set-up, but it does have it's drawbacks. I find trail riding improved, as I'm able to cruise at a higher speed. Also I find that belt grip has improved, thus less shifting into low range while encountering some rough spots on the trail. The drawback is that initial take off is abrubt, so unloading off the truck, or slow technical riding is a little tricky, also some low speed engine braking is lost. Price is about $50 cdn.
The Dalton Clutch kit is a more complete kit, including new flyweights, springs, etc. I have no expierience with the Dalton kit, so all I can do is post testimonials of owners of the kit.
glensts writes: The dalton kit is almost like factory on the hard packed road but in the mud and water its a different machine altogether, get up and goes and has excellent acceleration and power compared to stock machine runnin side by side, a definetly good investment, way better for belt traction in high gear. I was kinda iffy on whether it was a waste of money but under load its worth every penny.
The K & N Air filter is a low retriction, High performance air filter. This allows the engine to breath easier and make more power. This product alone will only improve performance slightly. The real benefit of this filter is when it is combined with an Aftermarket exhaust.
The Big Gun Exhaust adds engine performance by allowing the engine to "breath" better by reducing exhaust restriction over stock. Big Gun claims a 3.5HP power increase - That is over 10% increase over stock. Here is a quote courtesy of "tonester" from ATV frontier:
"On steep, technical terrain, the power comes on quicker. In spots that before the motor would bog down, it now just powers through them. Hopping logs and obstacles is also easier. I've left the jetting stock for now. Runs fine."

To my knowledge, There are 2 other companies that manufactur Performance exhausts for the Outlander.
1)
2)
I have yet to recieve any feedback from owners of these exhausts systems, but when I do, I will post the info. Both claim a 2-3 HP gain over the stock exhaust system.
Many Outlander owners may expierience poor front brake pad life. Eventhough riders may not use the brakes much, they are still finding that the front pads do not last long in dirty, muddy conditions. Some owners have had to replace the pads in as little as 300 miles. A simple fix for this issue is to install EBC brand Severe duty Copper Sintered pads once the OEM pads wear out.
EBC pads can be purchased at most motorcycle dealers. Below are the EBC part numbers that pertain to All Outlanders. I have listed the Rotor part numbers as well, although most of the time, rotor replacement is not necessary.
Front Brakes:
Left : FA307SV
Right: FA317SV
Rotor: MD 6222D (same both sides)
Rear Brakes:
Pads: FA307SV
Rotor: MD 6223D
EBC Pads offer a much longer service life and quieter operation. They are also cheaper than OEM BRP pads..
If you have performance upgrade that you would like to share. Feel free to me and I will gladly post the results.
