One of the first modifications any ATV owner upgrades is the stock tires. The Outlander XT comes with Carlisle ACT radial tires, which have proven to be a decent tire in most riding conditions. Yet some owners still prefer aftermarket tires to suit their riding style or conditions. Below are some recommened tires suitable for the Outlander 400. I recommend that when Shopping for tires, bigger is not always better.. Being a 400, tire size should be kept under 27", any larger and you will expierience clearance issues and Noticable power loss.
ITP 589 m/s :
Good mud and snow performance, long lasting...
ITP Mudlites:
Decent Mud tire and good trail performer. One of the most popular tires on the market.. Lightweight helps conserve horsepower, but wear out quick.
Comes in 2 styles:
XL with 1 1/8" lugs (left)
XT with 3/4" lugs (right)
Maxxis Mud Bugs:
Decent Mud and trail tire with performance simmilar to Mudlites, but Longer lasting.
New for 2008: Mud Bug Radial - pictured right.
ITP Mudlite XTR:
Radial version of Mudlite, Good all around Mud, snow and trail tire. Will last longer and ride better than standard Mudlite XL. 1 1/8" lugs work well in Mud.
GYPSY's Tire of choice! Allthough they are pricey, they work and wear very well.
Maxxis Big Horn:
Decent trail tire, with OK performance in Mud. This tire shines in Rocky terrain. Long lasting and Radial construction for good ride caracteristics.
New for 2008: Bighorn 2.0 Pictured right. Same great caracteristics as oringinal bighorn, but with lighter weight.
ITP ATR:
Better than stock trail tire, good for harder surfaces. Radial construction improves handling. Tread pattern is simmilar to what MX sport quads use. This is the standard tire offered on the new Can-Am Renegade 800
Carlisle A.C.T XLR: Basically the same tire offered on 05 and up Outlanders with XT Package, but now with 6-ply construction.
Interco Swamp Lite
Maxxis 'Zilla (not Mudzilla). Another great all around tire based on the famous Mudzilla, but with reduced weight to save horsepower.
Highlifter Outlaw
If you are going to ride in Nasty mud, this is the tire to have. The Outlaw is famous in the southern U.S. and has won numerous Mud racing events. Sizes range from 25" all the way up 31" (31's not recommended for a little 400)
